Terms of trade

These terms apply when you buy an asbestos test from NZ Asbestos Removal, ask us for a removal or survey quote, or accept a quote we arrange. They sit alongside the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986, which give you rights these terms cannot take away. Last updated 15 September 2026.

1. Who you are contracting with

NZ Asbestos Removal is a trading name of Kauri Ridge Holdings Limited, NZBN 9429050000017, GST number 140-000-017, of Level 1, 12 Kōwhai Lane, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021. In these terms "we", "us" and "our" mean that entity trading as NZ Asbestos Removal, and "you" means the person or organisation buying from us.

We are not a licence holder. NZ Asbestos Removal is not a WorkSafe asbestos licence holder. Removal we arrange is carried out by licensed partners named, with their licence class and number, on each quote.

We arrange asbestos testing and asbestos removal. We do not carry out sampling, laboratory analysis, removal work or clearance inspections ourselves. Those are carried out by the surveyor, the IANZ-accredited laboratory, the WorkSafe-licensed remover and the independent clearance provider respectively, each identified to you before the relevant work happens.

2. The asbestos test

  • Price. $249including GST covers one surveyor visit to the address you give us, one sample taken by a competent surveyor, analysis of that sample by an IANZ-accredited laboratory, and the laboratory's report passed to you with a plain-English explanation. Additional samples taken at the same visit are $85 each including GST.
  • Payment. Payable when you book, through Stripe Checkout. We do not receive or store your card details.
  • Scheduling. We will contact you within 2 working days of your booking with visit times from the partner surveyor for your region.
  • Extra samples found necessary on site. If the surveyor considers more samples are needed, they will ask you before taking them. Any extras agreed on site are invoiced afterwards at $85 each.
  • What a result means. A laboratory report states what was found in the sample submitted. It is not a statement that a building is free of asbestos, and we will never present it as one.

3. Cancellations and refunds on the test

  • We cannot offer a visit within 10 working days of your booking: full refund, no questions.
  • You cancel 24 hours or more before the booked visit: full refund.
  • You cancel less than 24 hours before the visit, or nobody is there:we may retain the visit portion of the fee to cover the surveyor's time. Any sample fees not used are refunded.
  • After samples have been taken:the fee is not refundable, because the surveyor's visit and the laboratory work have been done. It is instead credited in full against a removal we arrange for you within 90 days of the result.
  • The surveyor cannot safely take a sample — no access, the material is inaccessible, or sampling would create a hazard: we refund the fee for any samples not taken and explain what we recommend instead.

Refunds go back to the card used, usually within 5 working days of us processing them.

4. The 90-day credit

Your $249 test fee is credited against the price of a removal we arrange, provided you accept the removal quote within 90 days of the date of your laboratory result. The credit applies once per test, is not transferable and is not redeemable for cash.

5. Removal and survey quotes

  • Quotes are free and carry no obligation.
  • We aim to send a fixed written removal quote within 5 working days of receiving what we need from you.
  • Every removal quote names the WorkSafe-licensed remover who will do the work, their licence class and licence number, and who will carry out the independent clearance inspection.
  • It states what is included — the removal control plan, notification to WorkSafe, disposal at an authorised site with dockets, the clearance inspection and certificate, and air monitoring where Class A work requires it — and what is excluded, which typically includes reinstatement, re-roofing and relining.
  • Quotes are valid for 30 days. A quote may be revised if what is found on site materially differs from what was described to us, and we will tell you before any additional work is done.
  • No licensed removal work can start sooner than 5 days after the remover notifies WorkSafe, because the regulations require at least that much notice.

6. Deposits and payment for removal

  • Accepting a removal quote creates a contract with us. A deposit is payable on acceptance and the balance is due when we send you the clearance certificate.
  • The deposit is refundable until the remover has notified WorkSafe or ordered containment materials for your job. After that point it covers costs already committed and is refundable only to the extent those costs have not been incurred.
  • We pay the clearance provider separately from the remover, because the regulations require the clearance inspection to be independent of the remover.
  • All prices on this site and in our quotes are in New Zealand dollars and include GST.

7. What we need from you

  • Accurate information about the property, the material, its condition and access.
  • That you are the owner, or have the owner's authority, to have samples taken and work carried out. If the property is tenanted, that you have told the occupants.
  • That you leave suspect material alone. Do not break, sand, drill, water-blast or sweep it, and keep people away from it if it is damaged.
  • Safe access to the property at the agreed time.

8. Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act

Where you acquire our services as a consumer, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies and nothing in these terms limits or excludes it. We must carry out our services with reasonable care and skill, fit for purpose, within a reasonable time and at a reasonable price where none is agreed. If we fail a guarantee you have remedies under that Act.

Where you acquire our services for business purposes, the parties agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply, to the extent the Act permits that agreement.

The Fair Trading Act 1986 applies to everything we say on this site and in our quotes. If you believe we have stated something misleading, tell us: we will correct it and record the correction on our editorial policy page.

9. Liability

Subject to clause 8, and to the extent the law allows, our liability arising out of any test, quote or arranged work is limited to the amount you have paid us for the relevant service. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit or delay to a building project.

The surveyor, laboratory, licensed remover and clearance provider each carry their own professional responsibilities and their own insurance for the work they perform. Where the law would make them, rather than us, responsible for something, we will tell you who they are and put you in contact with them.

We give no advice about the health risk of asbestos in any particular building. The laboratory report speaks for the material sampled and the clearance certificate speaks for the area inspected. For health questions, talk to your doctor or read WorkSafe's guidance for homeowners.

10. Privacy

We collect and use your information as set out in our privacy policy. In short: we share what a partner needs to do the job, and we do not sell your details or pass them to other removers for a fee.

11. General

  • These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
  • We may update these terms. The version that applies to you is the one published when you booked or accepted a quote. The date at the top says when this version was published.
  • If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

12. If something goes wrong

Tell us first — hello@nz-asbestos-removal.co.nz. We will acknowledge within 1 working day and tell you what we are doing about it. If it concerns the conduct of licensed asbestos work, WorkSafe New Zealand is the regulator and you can raise it with them directly. If it concerns consumer rights, the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Disputes Tribunal are both open to you.
