Asbestos testing and removal in Auckland

Straight answer first: Auckland is not live yet. We have not signed a surveyor for Auckland, so we cannot promise you a visit and we will not take your money for one. The form joins a waitlist. Everything else on this page — the rules, the costs, the sources — is true today and worth reading before you hire anyone.

What removal costs in Auckland

The only published New Zealand cost dataset we could source puts a typical Auckland asbestos removal at $8,000 (CheckMyBuilder, Auckland asbestos removal cost, June 2026). Nationally the same source gives $1,000 to $40,000 and up across all jobs and $30–150 per m² by area.

That spread is not vagueness. It is the licence class doing the work. A Class A licence is required for removing any amount of friable asbestos, and for asbestos-contaminated dust or debris except as allowed by reg 55. A Class B licence (or a Class A licence) is required for removing more than 10 m² of non-friable asbestos or asbestos-containing material, counted cumulatively across the whole removal project at the site. A small run of non-friable cladding and a friable Class A job are different trades with different containment, different notification and different clearance requirements, and the price follows. We do not publish a Auckland cost multiplier, a per-material Auckland rate, or a "Aucklandhouses built between X and Y" statistic. No source for any of those exists that we could check, so they are not here.

Getting a test in Auckland

Only a laboratory can tell you whether a material contains asbestos. WorkSafe tells homeowners that sampling should only be done by a reputable contractor, and tells PCBUs that it should only be done by a competent person. That is why a surveyor takes our samples and why we do not sell DIY sampling kits.

The price is the same in Auckland as everywhere else: $249 including GST for the visit and first sample, $85for each extra sample taken at the same visit. If it is positive

We come back with one fixed written quote within 5 working days. It names the WorkSafe-licensed remover doing the work in Auckland, their licence class and number so you can check them on the WorkSafe register, who is doing the independent clearance, and what is and is not included. It is valid 30 days, and your $249 test fee comes off it if you go ahead within 90 days.

Disposal in Auckland

Asbestos waste must go to a disposal site authorised to accept it. Never burn it and never put it in a council rubbish bin. Your council can tell you which local site takes it.

We have deliberately not named a Auckland facility on this page. Council transfer-station rules and acceptance criteria change, and a wrong address for asbestos waste is worse than none. Ask Auckland Council which local site takes it. On a removal we arrange, disposal is the remover's job and the dockets come back to you.
