Asbestos removal, arranged at one fixed quote

How an arranged removal runs

1. A laboratory result. Ours, or a report you already have. Without it nobody can put a fixed price on the work. A test is $249 including GST and is credited against a removal we arrange within 90 days.
2. Scope and class. Friable material is Class A work at any quantity (reg 54). More than 10 m² of non-friable, counted across the whole project, is Class B or A (reg 56). That determines who is allowed to do it.
3. One fixed written quote, within 5 working days. It names the licensed remover, their licence class and number, and the clearance provider. It is valid for 30 days.
4. WorkSafe is notified by the licensed remover, in writing, at least 5 days before the work starts (reg 34).
5. The removal happensunder the remover's removal control plan, with air monitoring by a licensed assessor where the work is Class A (regs 43, 57).
6. Waste goes to an authorised disposal site and you get the dockets. Asbestos waste must go to a disposal site authorised to accept it. Never burn it and never put it in a council rubbish bin. Your council can tell you which local site takes it.
7. An independent clearance, then the certificate. The area must not be reoccupied until the certificate is issued (regs 41–42).

What a legitimate quote has to include

A quote that leaves any of these out is not a comparable price. If you are collecting quotes elsewhere, this is the checklist to hold them to:

• The licence class and number of the company actually doing the work, and the licence holder's name.
• The removal control plan and the WorkSafe notification (reg 34).
• Disposal at a site authorised to accept asbestos, with dockets returned to you.
• The clearance inspection and certificate, by a party independent of the remover (regs 41–42).
• Air monitoring by a licensed assessor for Class A work (regs 43, 57).
• What is excluded: reinstatement, re-roofing, relining, scaffolding, making good.
• A start date no earlier than 5 days after notification.

What it costs

Across New Zealand, removal jobs run about $1,000 to $40,000 and up, with a typical job around $7,000 and rates of $30–150 per m² (CheckMyBuilder, Asbestos removal cost, updated June 2026). Friable Class A work sits at the top of that range. The cost page breaks those figures down and ties them to the licence class.

We do not publish per-material removal rates — roof versus ceiling versus cladding per m² — because no New Zealand source for them was found. Your fixed quote comes from the licensed remover's own pricing once the material is known.

How payment works

Removal is quoted and invoiced, not bought online. When the removal product goes live, the sequence is a 20% deposit when you accept the quote, and the balance when we send you the clearance certificate. Until a subcontract with a licensed remover is signed for your region, we say so plainly rather than taking money: if we cannot arrange it, we will point you at the WorkSafe licence holder register so you can engage a licensed remover directly.
